The Berner Kantonalbank e-vault

Since 2021, Berner Kantonalbank (BEKB) has been providing its customers with e-safes and digital mailboxes based on DSwiss technologies.

The challenge

Online banking is now common practice across all age groups. As a universal bank, BEKB appeals to very diverse customer groups, from children to senior citizens, from digitally inexperienced customers to digital natives. Their expectations of online banking are shaped by their experience with the digital offerings of tech giants such as Google and Facebook or the intuitive operation of Apple products. Customers want "simple" e-banking without a lot of "bells and whistles". They expect interactions that used to require a trip to the bank counter to be mapped digitally and bank documents such as account statements or tax documents to be accessible in electronic form. The increasing digitization of all business processes also increases the need for a secure storage location for important data such as digital documents or passwords.

BEKB therefore commissioned DSwiss to develop a solution with an e-safe and digital mailbox.

The solution

DSwiss has developed the e-safe and the digital mailbox as modules for BEKB, which have been integrated into the existing BEKB customer portal. The modules can be accessed via the web browser of the BEKB customer portal.

Save paper and costs with the digital mailbox

The digital mailboxes enable BEKB to send hundreds of thousands of files to its customers end-to-end encrypted in the shortest possible time.

The handling of bank documents is made easier for customers. In addition to private customers, BEKB's corporate customers benefit in particular. This is because extensive filter options support them in their search for specific documents. These are now stored in the digital mailboxes for ten years. This means that BEKB's digital mailbox complies with the statutory retention periods for business documents and eliminates the need for paper printouts for physical archiving.

The effects

Thanks to the digital mailboxes, the delivery of documents at BEKB has been restructured and, in particular, the process for sending information has been simplified. Customers can continue to receive customer letters by post in the traditional way if they wish. However, most new customers follow the default setting of only receiving customer mail digitally.

The E-Tresor is enjoying a slowly but steadily growing user group. Although no specific communication measures have been taken to date, the E-Tresor has been able to attract online-savvy users.
